Geogra3: Top 3 Geography Youtube channels

In this blog I’m going to share my top 3 geography youtube channels.  These are always my go-to channels when I’m planning my explanations or I’m thinking about how to make a lesson more engaging.

So let’s dive in!

1. Mrs Geography

This channel is aimed specifically at GCSE students (ages 15-16 years) and explains some key physical geography areas on the exam specification.  However, the playlist I find most useful to direct students to is the one on skills, as they take you step-by-step through the process and then provides tips on how to describe the graphs or answer exam questions using the skills.

2. Geography Now!  

This channel is great for getting useful summaries about every country in the world.  The students find them fun and engaging.  We are currently using them in our Middle East topic to introduce students to specific countries in the region at the end of each lesson.  I find it easiest to go straight to the A-Z of countries playlist and find the one you wish to use.

3. DW News

This is my absolute favourite channel at the moment to find documentaries on up to date world issues and alternative perspectives.  The channel is provided by a German broadcasting company and covers news behind the headlines in depth but in an accessible way.  They are high quality, always thought-provoking and I’d highly recommend!

Two bonus websites!

Now these two links are not Youtube channels but I think they are worth a mention given how useful they are in the classroom.  

So firstly, Waterbear. It’s an interactive streaming platform dedicated to the planet.  It provides feature-length films and documentaries, focusing on climate action, biodiversity and sustainability.  It’s free and available in all English-speaking countries.

Secondly, Time for Geography.  This open-access video platform provides short video clips on a whole range of curriculum specific topics including longshore drift, wildfires, food production and many more.
