Geogra3: Three videos to help teach about water resources

13/05/2023

For this week’s Geogra3 I thought I would share three videos that can be used in your lessons, specifically based on water resources.

So let’s crack on!

1. The World’s Water Crisis

This episode from Netflix (also available on Youtube) outlines the water crisis in terms of scarcity, highlighting the possibility of Day Zero in various cities around the world.  The focus is on how we price such a valuable resource while still ensuring access to it as human right.  A useful way to start a topic about water and resources.  If you're in need of a fully prepared lesson linked to this video you'll find one in the GTB vault.

2. The Egypt-Ethiopia Nile dispute

This video explores geopolitics on the Nile, with reference to the dam being built in Ethiopia and the tensions it is causing with Egypt.  It considers the background of Egypt’s claims to the Nile with the role of colonial agreements and also looks at the potential positives that the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam will bring to a country working hard to close the development gap.  There are full lesson resources linked to this video in the GTB vault, plus a Q and A worksheet linked to a second shorter clip from Al Jazeera.

3. Solving the world’s water crisis

Earth Stories has provided a useful overview of a variety of ways to solve the water scarcity and water quality issues facing countries around the world.  It considers options like desalination, construction of wetlands and toilet to tap initiatives, as well as a variety of ways individuals can be encouraged to conserve water.  Again, classroom-ready resources are available for this 50 minute video inside the GTB vault.

If you would like to utilise these video clips in your lessons but are limited on the time needed to prepare resources around them, you might want to have a look at the Geography Teacher Box vault.  Lesson presentations and worksheets with answers have just been added for each of these videos, so have a quick watch of the preview below to get an idea of what there is:

You can currently access the GTB vault on a 7 day free trial and then join for as little as £3.99!

That's it for this week 😃

And if no one has told you already today, you’re amazing!

Thank you for the work you do and showing up for another day.
