Geogra3: Three reasons to buy the Changing China unit!

24/03/2023

In this week's Geogra3 I am showcasing my brand new unit, "Changing China" that is now on sale!

I've spent quite literally months pulling this all together to make life easier for you.  Not only are the lessons both engaging and informative, I hope they can also capture the attention of your students, deepening their understanding of the country.  Furthermore, the ready-made, high quality resources will save you time and allow you to focus on other important areas either in teaching or simply for ensuring you can leave work at a reasonable time.

So here goes.....

1. Ten classroom-ready lessons

The unit begins by mapping some of China’s geographical features and then goes on to examine its population in-depth focusing on distribution, policy and the more recent ageing issue.  Lessons then illustrate China’s rapid economic growth considering the Belt and Road initiative as well as changes in cities like Shenzhen and the rural province of Xinjiang.  There is a lesson looking at environmental issues and also the controversy surrounding the Three Gorges Dam.  Finally I have also included a bonus lesson that is ideal as a cover lesson (or two) that encourages students to research the tourist destinations in China and plan a tour.

Each of the lessons include teacher guidance in the notes as well as answers to activities to enable non-specialists and those less familiar with the material to feel supported.

2. Homework and assessment

There are two homework activities included in the unit.  The first gets students to learn the key vocabulary that will be needed throughout the unit which is then tested on during the next lesson, with the expectation that students should aim to get at least 50%.  The second homework is a “Meanwhile, elsewhere….” reading task, considering population concerns in Germany.  The answers to the questions are provided to enable peer marking of the homework in class.  I’m not a fan of homework but I know that many of you are in situations where it is required by schools, so both activities have been designed to minimise any marking for the teacher.

The end of unit assessment uses a combination of multiple choice and longer answers, with a full mark scheme also available.

3. Teaching videos

For each of the lessons, I have also created videos with the content being taught to help students access the material if absent from lessons.  They may also be helpful to see how the lessons are presented before teaching the content yourself.  Each lesson is available on Youtube as part of a playlist to help students to work alongside them and this is one example below:

If this has whet your appetite and you're looking for ways to reduce the burden of teaching, head on over to the product page.  You do an incredible job day in and day out; you deserve to get the things that make life easier for you, so you can also live a fulfilled life, full of energy to do the things you enjoy.
