Geogra3: revision infographics, AI in Geography, star sand

06/05/2023

Welcome to this week’s newsletter where I share 3 geography things with you.  This week I'm sharing about using infographics in geography revision, the use of AI in geography education and also starry sand!

So let's crack on.....

1. Revising Geography

If your year 11 are looking for an alternative way to revise, they might like the videos produced on the YouTube channel, Geography Case Studies.   Each one is an infographic of different elements of the course which students can follow in real time to produce their own summary notes.  There is also a particularly useful one about answering 4,6 and 9 mark questions.  It is primarily based on the AQA spec but there is likely to be a lot of overlap with the core content for others.  My school is moving to OCR B from next year, so if you know of good resources to help with teaching this, please let me know!

2. Using AI in Geography

It is literally everywhere!  There are many people talking about AI and its uses, so it was great to see a short, succinct blog post from Kate Stockings outlining how to get started with ChatGPT as a geography teacher.  She provides a number of useful links to help cut away the fluff, so if you’re interested head there via this link.  I’ve also spotted that Kate is involved in a platform called Carousel and there is a free webinar linked to the launch of its Geography element coming up on 10th May.  As far as I can tell it’s a question bank to help make retrieval practice easier.  You can find out more here.

3. Star-shaped “sand”

I thought I would end with this short quirky article.  There are beaches made of stars in Japan - or more accurately there are tiny star-shaped shells that have washed up on three islands in Okinawa.  Worth a look!

And that's it for this week - super short but hopefully useful.

PS - I love nothing more than supporting Geography teachers as we are a pretty awesome bunch.
