Geogra3: CPD, A-level help, coastal strategies

05/01/2023

In this week's Geogra3, I'm sharing CPD ideas, A-level Geography help and also a different approach to teaching coastal management strategies.

1. CPD round-up

Are you a head of department wanting to help develop your team or maybe just looking for ways to develop yourself  professionally?  You might like to have a look at an updated presentation created by Catherine Owen (@GeogMum on Twitter).  It includes hyperlinks to a variety of CPD opportunities online including ones on GIS, decolonisation and curriculum design.  You can find the presentation here.

2. A-level Geography

If you are in need of some further resources to aid your teaching of A-level (ages 16-18), David Redfern has created a Substack to include extracts from texts he has written along with questions and answers linked to specific exam questions from boards like AQA and Eduqas.  If you haven’t come across Substack before you can download it as an app so then you can access the articles on your phone.  He also emails once he has posted a new article as well.  You can sign up for free via this link.

3. Sustainable coastal management

It can get a bit dry teaching the different coastal management strategies but I really like this approach from Caiti Walter (@EduCaiti on Twitter)using the sustainability stool.  I’ve seen the “stool” approach used with assessing Dubai previously.  It’s particularly helpful for students when writing an answer to questions that ask them to consider to what extent or how far do they agree.  Here’s a link to the original post.
